We are a family owned operation based in Lindrith, NM. We raise and train our own horses, give customers horses a tune up, teach people to ride and handle their horses better, train horses for barrel racing and trail riding, buy and sell select horses, and offer breeding to high quality stallions. Many of our horses are still young and it may take a few more years before they are running at the level where we want them, but we have confidence that they and we will get there. We are aiming high, for World championships in AQHA, APHA, and ApHC, as well as NBHA. We have some very nice young horses, it is only a matter of time, patience, and hard work.
We use natural communication methods, and work with the horse instead of forcing the horse to do what we want. We do not "follow" any particular popular trainers, though we do study all horse training methods in order to build a broader understanding of horses and horsemanship. Due to this broad study, we call our style of training "natural communication" instead of the popular "natural horsemanship"- the difference being that not all things natural are actually desirable! We try to communicate with the horses in a way that is natural for them to understand, and using those communication techniques we teach them what we want from them in a way that's easy for them to follow. All of our horses are very loving and eager to please thanks to the fact that we build relationships with them instead of forcing them to do our will, and we teach them to try to understand us and our actions.
We believe that the human/horse relationship is a 51/49% partnership in that you should always have your horse's best interests at heart, and you should always keep their feelings, thoughts, abilities, and instincts in mind when teaching and handling them. For the horse's part of the partnership, they need to be willing to hand over leadership to you and do as you ask every time no matter what, trusting that you will not ask them to do anything that will hurt them. This takes time and patience and cannot be rushed, but when you have a great relationship with your horse and he accepts you as his leader, neither one of you will lose, and you both will be satisfied, happy, and safe.
Horses that come in for training will be ridden in the open for the majority of the time, and if they are receiving show training they will be hauled to an arena during the week to get experience there, as well. Depending on the horse, it may be taken on trail rides with several other riders/horses or to small shows to take in the sights and sounds of competition. We take pride in producing well-rounded, sane, sound horses.
We have access to miles of trail riding, whether on our own ranch or on the nearby Santa Fe Forest; the terrain includes trees, hills, and flatland, with opportunities to see wildlife such as mule deer, elk, an assortment of birds, squirrels, and chipmunks. All of our horses are ridden on trails, even the barrel horses.
